Drug Penalty Groups in Texas
The Texas Controlled Substance Act is found in Chapter 481 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. Illegal drugs—including materials, compounds, mixtures, or preparations containing controlled substances—are divided into six Penalty Groups under sections 481.102 through 481.105 for the purpose of establishing criminal penalties for violations of the Act.
The Penalty Groups under Texas law are largely similar to the schedules established under the federal Controlled Substances Act. State law and federal law classify many illegal drugs similarly.
